One of the most stunning flower books of the 17th century, it contains pictures of peonies, irises, sunflowers, and more exotic plants of America (cactuses) and the East (Ginger and Pineapples). The images were derived from the contemporary flower books of Vallet, Besler and van de Pas. The collation is not straightforward as the work was published in 5 different stages, The first publication of 1611 contained plates 1-54, the second in 1613 plates 55-79, the Third in 1614 80-90, and the fourth in 1615 91-114. Parts were often sold separately and this copy contains the complete second and third parts, and sections of the first and fourth parts. These separate sections can be seen by the text headings on plates 55 and 91 for parts 2 and 4. A rare opportunity to obtain this beautiful flower book which is over 400 years old and contains 54 plates in an original vellum binding.

PORCACCHI, TOMMASO

"L'isole più famose del mondo"

-Venice: Giorgio Angelieri for heirs of Simone Galignani de Karera

-1590

-3 parts in one volume, small folio (285 x 190mm.)

-Printed on thick paper

-47 maps and plans in the text engraved by Girolamo Porro

-woodcut printer's device at end with the initials H.S.G.K

-Bound in Fine nineteenth-century red half morocco by Hatton of Manchester with his ticket, gilt arms of the Parker family on upper cover, slipcase

-Condition: occasional marginal soiling, binding slightly marked at edge

L'Isole più famose del mondo was one of the most popular atlases of the late sixteenth century, treating the world as a collection of islands. It is based upon a Chinese woodblock sheet map, which had been acquired by Captain John Saris in Bantam sometime between December 1608 and October 1609. Saris, then serving as chief factor in Bantam for the East India Company, had taken it from a Fujianese merchant in partial settlement of a debt owed to Saris. Rare opportunity to obtain this hugely important early travel work describing Linschoten's voyage to Goa and the Indies.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0624/2969/2075/products/EDB273A2-9436-4796-8C6E-ABAB65849DED.jpg?v=1659812487
regnum-congo-hoc-est-vera-descriptio-regni-africani-quod-tam-ab-incolis-quam-lusitanis-congus-appellatur-petits-voyages-part-1-1598

-Theodor de Bry published by Wolfgang Richter in Frankfurt.

-1598.

-Modern vellum binding in near fine condition.

-TP, [3], 1-60, [index 3], letterpress title to plates,

-14 (of 14 plates).

-3 (of 3) folding maps (all with losses and repairs. 2 of the continent of Africa and 1 of the Congo.

-Complete

The De Bry version of Pigafetta/ Lopes's account of the Congo.
