Despite Bartlett's early success, he had repeated financial difficulties and a history of alcohol abuse, sadly ending his days at Rockwood asylum in Sydney in 1911.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p3\"\u003eThe photographs are of the North Island and include an early five-image panorama of Auckland taken from Partington's Windmill which depicts the urban landscape as well as showing Rangitoto in the background. The other photos in the album depict Whangārei Falls, the Waitākere Ranges, Lake Rotorua,  Rotomahana, and Māori. Particularly desirable are early photographs of the \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003ePink and White Terraces\u003c\/span\u003e at Rotomahana, which were destroyed during the eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p3\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe Māori photographs depict a Māori school\u003c\/span\u003e, a group performing a \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003ehaka,\u003c\/span\u003e and \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eKing Tāwhiao (c.1822–1894)\u003c\/span\u003e, the second Māori King, holding a \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003ci\u003emere\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e and seated with three companions outside the King’s residence at \u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eWhatiwhatihoe Pā\u003c\/span\u003e, near Pirongia.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p3\"\u003eRobert Henry Bartlett was one of the leading photographers working in nineteenth-century Auckland.
