Missionaries were expanding in India, with Calcutta (and nearby Serampore) key areas. The military orphan school in Allipore, where the author Henry Bowser worked, would have had an evangelical and Christian focus.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInterestingly, this book contains three folding maps printed at the asiatic lithographic press by Thomas Black.
