It's often forgotten that for much of history, religion was the most important part of nearly every person's life. A prayer book would be a highly personal and treasured item and they were often valuable and expensive items in their day. They often contain important records of women's and men's ownership, which give us a personal link to the past.
A nice original example of the Book of Common Prayer and Psalms in contemporary binding and with the first owner's inscription in a fine hand.
