This is a nice example of a 16th Century legal tract on Roman law in a fine early 17th Century German monastic binding. The binding has nice blind stamped decoration and is in near fine condition with an ownership inscription on the title page "Monastery Weingartensis 1630". Weingarten is located in South West Germany, near Stuttgart, and the Abbey there was dissolved in 1803.

The works of the Renaissance Italian lawyer, Niccolo Bellone. Born in Montferrato in Piedemont, Bellone studie law in Bologne and was a well regarded lawyer of his day. His skill and fame lead him to being recruited to the Univeristy of Pavia by the Sforza family, before retiring to private legal work in Milan. A well regarded teacher, this is a collection of his legal works which would remain relevant into the 17th Century.
