These manuscript globe gores are based on the pair of globes produced by Matthaeus Greuter, a celebrated German engraver who worked in Rome for Scipione Borghese, Pope Paul V and the Accademia dei Lincei. Greuter's most famous celestial globe was produced in 1636 which formed a 49cm globe. The globe gores refer to the discoveries of Tycho Brahe
