Each album contains 12 double page prints in traditional brush painting style. Alongside the elegant brushstrokes, vibrant colours are used to highlight contrasting tones and textures on each image.
Taki Katei was a successful painter during the Meiji period whose art was founded on traditional Chinese and Japanese methods. His work demonstrates the shift from traditional methods to a more modern style with increasing Western influence. He was commissioned to paint for the Royal palace and his work was exhibited internationally.
