This atlas was initially produced to accompany Raynal's “Histoire Philosophique et Politique des établissements et du Commerce des Européens dans les deux Indes.” This was an important work describing trade and the history of the East Indies and Americas. The atlas was also issued individually and was a popular descriptive work of the time. The atlas contains important pre-revolutionary charts on trade between England and the colonies, as well as several maps of the American colonies. There is also important data on finance of the sugar and slave trade, the principle economy for the French in the West Indies.
