Description:

A substantial and largely complete example of the second volume of Blaeu’s Atlas Novus, comprising the sections on France, Spain, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. This volume is often considered the most desirable of the series due to its inclusion of the principal world regions outside northern Europe, including Asia and Africa with their celebrated carte-à-figures.

The atlas is preserved in its original publisher’s vellum binding, a significant survival which greatly enhances its historical and institutional appeal.

Condition

-Near-complete, with 88 of 92 maps present.

-Two maps supplied from other contemporary Blaeu copies.

-Uncoloured throughout (except where noted).

Some light toning to early text leaves and a small number of maps; otherwise largely near fine internally, with crisp, strong impressions and without the heavy offsetting or toning often encountered in coloured examples.
