First edition of Guillaume Durand's (c1230-1296) commentary on Peter Lombard’s Sentences. This edition was printed by the pioneering Charlotte Guillard, the first woman to operate a major Parisian press. Guillard, active from 1502 until her death in 1557, produced more than 200 books, predominantly folios in theology, law, and the classics, and was widely admired for the accuracy and quality of her editions.

Guillard marked her output with her distinctive printer’s emblem - a radiant sun - which is present on this copy.
