Thomas Cajetan was an important Italian Cardinal and theologian, who is known for being an influential opponent to Martin Luther and for drafting the Pope's rejection of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon's annulment. He attended the Diet of Augsburg in 1518, and would be instrumental in arranging the excommunication of Luther in 1519. The Summula Caietana is a commentary of the sins listed by theology. The "Jentacula Novi Testamenti" explores 64 important passages of the new testament. Cajetan's theology would remain influential after his death, especially for his arguments against the reformation lead by Luther.
This copy is a nice example of early modern printing by the Giunta house. Uncommonly, it maintains its original blind stamped leather boards which are elegantly decorated. The binding has been rebacked and has new clasps, but the front and back boards are in remarkably good condition and the text block is in its original state with no trimming.
