The images is based on Stradano's allegory which was published at the end of the 16th Century. This map depicts two medallion portraits of Vespucci and Columbus looking down over the Italian coastline from Livorno to Savona. The central sections shows Neptune supporting the Globe which shows the Americas from Patagonia to Greenland. Flora (Florence) and Janus (Genoa) are illustrated either side, celebrating the discoveries of the Vespucci and Columbus who were from these cities.
