This is an important early work describing Dutch Brazil, Batavia, India and the Dutch East Indies. The two works are lavishly produced and the accounts are accompanied by Maps and illustrations of towns and the natural history of the regions.
Nieuhof worked for the Dutch West Indies Company for several years and learnt much about the Brazil and its natural history. He subsequently worked for the VOC (Dutch East Indies Company) so was uniquely placed to describe both the Eastern and Western regions of the world. His eyewitness accounts are still valuable resources on the early history of these regions.
A key 17th Century work on Brazil and the East Indies.
