Louis of Granada was a Dominican Friar and well regarded theologian. He was known for his frugal and ascetic lifestyle which is reflected in his writings. During his lifetime his fame spread and his teachings became popular for those wanting to dedicate their lives to religion. This "Book of Prayer and Meditation" was first written to aid a student in prayer, but became a significant success and he later dedicated his life to writing on spiritual themes. A favourite of Rose and Lima, the book notes the miseries of life and praises sacrificing luxuries for the afterlife ahead.
