This important voyage was the 6th recored circumnavigation of the world. The VOC had barred other enterprises from sailing through the Straits of Magellan so Schouten sailed around Cape Horn (which he named after the Dutch city) and across the Pacific the the Moluccas. One of the main purposes of the voyage was to discover Terra Australis and they visited many Pacific Islands including Tonga and Papua New Guinea. On returning via Java, Schouten was arrested by the VOC for breaking trade restrictions but his journey was celebrated in Europe and the account was published in several editions

EARLY AND COMPLETE COPIES OF THIS ACCOUNT OF SCHOUTEN'S CIRCUMNAVIGATION ARE EXCEEDINGLY RARE
