-Contemporary brown full calf binding with some loosening to the lower few inches of the binding and general wear.

-Very good condition throughout but some toning to pages.. Repaired tear to one map and stain to one map. Worm hole in lower margin of first 35 pages not affecting image.

This Atlas is the first Printed Atlas of Scotland with maps engraved by Blaeu and based on drawings by Robert and James Gordon of Straloch. The Maps of Ireland are after Mercator.

Blaeu's maps are finely engraved with beautiful decorative cartouches and embellishments to the maps. His maps are regarded as the height of Dutch engraving and book production of the Dutch Golden age. The Title page is particularly spectacular with unicorns proudly holding up the flags of Scotland next to the Scottish Lion rampant
