Lovely French Red Moroccan Binding - “L’Imitation de Jesus - Christ” - 1706

This little French prayer book from 1706 is bound in red Morocco leather with gold tooling and a single clasp in the form of a cross. The beautiful red binding with marbled end papers is typical of high end French bindings of the time. The small octavo book is pocket sized and would have been carried round as a personal item for prayer by the owner.

This copy has signs of later use, with some early 20th century personal prayers added between the pages. One even includes a flower which someone has put between the pages for posterity.
