A nautical chart by the most decorative cartographer of the 17th Century – Vincenzo Coronelli. Modern colour in good condition with some water damage at the upper right and upper left. Old repairs to verso.
Vincenzo Coronelli was a Franciscan Priest in Venice, and one of the most celebrated cartographers of the 17th Century. He is best known for designing and producing large globes for King Louis XVI
The map shows the Northern Atlantic with the coasts of Western Europe and Africa alongside the Coasts of North America, the Caribbean and the Northern part of South America. As this is a nautical chart, the inland areas and left bare, although North America is filled with a large cartouche held up by mermen. A note describes the mouth of the great Amazon river on the continent of South America.
