"Directions for a Godly Life" by Henry Tozer

12mo: [10] 163 [=193] [1] (complete)

The binding is a classic 17th Century binding from the  golden age of English book binding . It uses intricate tooling - including delicate four-petaled floral shapes, overlapping drawer handle motifs, and pointelle decoration. The tooling is consistent with the Queen s binder A, who was active during the restoration period, and whose name comes from a series of similar bindings from the Libraries of Catherine of Braganza and Mary of Modena - the wives of King Charles II and James II.

The book, written by the Oxford priest Henry Tozer, is a classic puritan tract which invites the reader to dedicate their life to God and to the Holy Communion. Like many puritans, Tozer would end up in the Netherlands, although he did not make the trip to America as many of his fellow believers would. USTC: 3088875 (4 copies only) £2500
