Beautiful and exceedingly rare large wall chart of Spain 120x75cm.

Condition: Mounted on contemporary cloth with wear which is expected for age. Original wooden mountings and roller. Wall charts of this age are very rare as very few survived the ravages of time. No other copies of this map are known with the surrounding text. The last copy of this map was sold at auction in 2003 (from an atlas so lacking the surrounding text).

Melchior Tavernier (1594 or 1595 1665) was a French engraver, printmaker and print publisher. In 1618 Melchior Tavernier became an intaglio engraver and printer to the king (graveur et imprimeur en taille-douce du Roi) with an emphasis on historical subjects and maps.
