A Beautiful map of the Western Mediterranean by the most decorative cartographer of the 17^th Century – Coronelli. Modern colour in good condition with some water damage at the upper right and old repairs to verso.

Vincenzo Coronelli was a Franciscan Priest in Venice, and one of the most celebrated cartographers of the 17^th Century. He is best known for designing and producing large globes for King Louis XVI

The map shows the Western Mediterranean in a nautical format with intricate coastal details and many names along the coastline. The cartouches on this map are particularly fine with a large cartouche decorated with flags, a crest and a sheet giving the title in the upper left. The cartouche at the bottom of the map shows an Eagle and a Lion pulling away a large sheet (!) which dedicates the chart and names Coronelli as the designer.
