Very good condition - old centre fold and some other minor old folds
This very early settlers' Newspaper was produced by G. W. Woon during the first Taranaki war. The satirical print poked fun at the war and colonial policies of the time. Although disparaging of colonial and British officers, racist stereotypes are also employed against Maori including this extremely offensive poem:
"Nursery Rhymes" - "Sing a song of sixpence, A tale about the war, Four-and-twenty n***ers Cooped up in a Pa (Maori fort). When the Pa was opened, Not a N***er there was seen; Is not that a jolly tale, to tell before the Queen
