"One of the most sumptuously produced of all early biological works" (Garrison-Morton)

This work was created by the Parisian anatomists, lead by Claude Perrault. It was one of the first detailed studies of animals and their anatomy and would lead the way in comparative anatomy in the 18th and 19th Centuries.

This book contains large but delicate engravings which depict an Ostrich, an Eagle, deer and some Monkeys, amongst others. Each depiction of an animal is accompanied by drawings of early anatomical dissections. This copy was once owned by the MP Hans Sloane and is housed in a beautiful 19th Century full calf binding.
